Skate Legends by Michael Brooke, buy here |
In the pursuit of educating myself about everything skate, I have stolen my boyfriend's beloved
Skate Legends book. Given that the thing to do this summer is wear Vans and loose, ripped-up jeans, just like a skateboarder, it would be rude not to know something, besides having watched
Dogtown and the Z-Boys. In the book, Michael Brooke profiles some of the most influential and high-achieving figures in the skating world. Among them are some rather awesome girls. They include Patty McGee who was muse for Holly Fulton's SS13 collection and Robin Logan, the youngest member of the "First Family of Skateboarding". I've gathered together a tumble of images of a few of the girls who Brooke discusses. They might not epitomise the skate look we're all into at the moment, but how could one not take note of Ellen ONeal's pulled-up knee socks, Robin Logan's yellow ruffle shirt or Laura Thornhil's waist-skimming rapunzel hair?
